AgriCentric Ventures

Converting agro-waste into quality organic farming products
2019 SEED Low Carbon Award Sustainable Agriculture Kumasi, Ghana

AgriCentric partners with both smallholder farmers and commercial scale farmers to buy their farm waste. The waste is processed into high value organic products: bio-char, bio-fertiliser, dietary supplement for livestock & fish, and bio-pesticides which are then sold back to farmers at cheap prices to enable them to engage in sustainable food production.

The enterprise further offers soil remediation services and partners with government agriculture offices to hold free Livelihood Empowerment Programmes for rural farming communities and sensitisation programmes on sustainable food production.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts

The enterprise reduces emissions of methane from farm waste and the use of synthetic chemicals in farms. In addition, farmers who participate are able to increase income by 30-60% and contribute to the overall health of communities who consume their food harvest.
  • Training up to 600 smallholder and commercial scale farmers in the Mampong/Nsuta, Kumawu and Bekwai communities.
  • Mobilising vegetable, cocoa and maize farmers for waste procurement.
  • Improving the health of communities who consume the crop harvest from these farms.
  • Processing farm waste from 400 farmers preventing the equivalent of 4 tons CO2 of methane emissions.
  • Increasing carbon sequestration qualities of soil through use of bio-char.
  • Reducing use of synthetic chemicals by farmer partners by 80%.
  • Increasing income generation of 400 smallholder farmers by 30%-60%.
  • Reducing smallholder farmers’ production costs by 30% and increasing crop yields by 35%.
  • Increasing participation of farmers in the community into the value chain.
