Tii Ki Komi Cassava Commercial Growers

Strengthening rural development through cassava production and processing
2016 SAG-SEED Award Ganador Sustainable Agriculture Lamwo district, Uganda

Tii Ki Komi Cassava Commercial Growers (TCCG) sources fresh cassava from local farmers and processes them into chips, flour and peels of highly competitive price and quality. The company provides training on agronomic practices to enhance cassava post-harvest handling and production of organic manure.

Products are currently sold for household consumption and to breweries, and the innovative production and sale of cassava peels as animal feed has developed new market opportunities. The enterprise plans to expand in scale and to enter local and foreign markets.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts

Cassava Production and Processing contributes to the reduction of the rural poverty while improving food security and nutrition by marketing affordable staple food products and increasing the level of farmers’ household income.
  • Reducing the general poverty level of the community by creating minimum income of UGX 15,000,000 for 130 farmers so far and 7 enterprise employees trained on the processing.
  • Improving food security and nutrition with affordable carbohydrates.

  • Preserving trees and reducing carbon emissions, as cassava production keeps farmers from charcoal burning.
  • Feeding animals with cassava pellets, reducing overgrazing and soil degradation.
  • Restoring soil fertility by creating organic manure from cassava waste products.
  • Increasing level of farmers’ household income through expanded sales of cassava and enhanced employment opportunities.
  • Contributing to the growth and development of the local cassava industry by strengthening the value chain and developing new market opportunities.
