Educating and distributing cookstoves to poor urban and rural households

NASL distributes clean cookstoves to households in slums and inner cities through a model based on education and delivery. Through education and community activities, the venture uses its sales agents to engage women groups, households, schools and other business enterprises in the communities.

Users have options for upfront and credit-based payments through mobile money platforms. To address knowledge and access gaps, NASL engages sales agents, and organises cooking competitions to share information and stimulate demand.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts
NASL's cookstoves reduce cooking time by up to 45 mins per day and help households save up to $47,000. They also help reduce carbon emissions and deforestation by minimising the use of charcoal.

  • Enhancing the knowledge of and value attributed to clean cookstoves among users.
  • Reducing charcoal consumption by 50% and reducing carbon emissions up to 90,000 by the 5th year of operations.
  • Reducing wood use by up to 1.3mil kgs by minimizing consumption of charcoal.
  • Saving more than 1,100 trees from charcoal production.
  • Creating employment for unemployed youth within slums and inner cities in Accra.
  • Training youth in sales/marketing process, providing them with employable skills.
