Jane Nakasamu from Greenbelt Energy spoke at the WTO Public Forum
On 30th September, SEED Award 2021 recipient Greenbelt Energy’s Jane Nakasamu from Zambia spoke as one of the panelists at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum on their journey in building their community greener. Greenbelt Energy produces smart stoves that contain biogas produced from out-grower sourced animal manure.
At the forum, Jane Nakasamu talked about the rising environmental issues in Zambia that are occurring due to the high dependency of the population on charcoal. Jane further elaborated on the challenges Greenbelt Energy faced at the initial stage of their enterprise and during the beginning of the pandemic. Having access to finance, building a team with the required skillsets, and interacting with their customers on the ground were some of the challenges mentioned at the panel discussion. She further mentioned the importance of bringing ecopreneurs to the same table with the policymakers in the process of policymaking, so that their challenges and efforts are being heard and integrated while designing the policies.
