Case Study: Pintadas Solar
Implementing Small-Scale Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems
Pintadas Solar is the name of an initial series of pilot projects focused on testing irrigation technologies in the municipality of Pintadas, located in the semi-arid north-eastern region of Brazil called the “Sertão”, one of the poorest regions in the country. The overarching aim of this initiative was to create a sustainable and replicable model geared towards improving livelihoods and climate resilience in areas where agriculture and pasture is the main economic activity. In 2008, Pintadas Solar was one of 5 projects selected to win the SEED Award.
